Chemical and Environmental Engineering Group

Graduated with an Outstanding Degree in Chemistry and Doctor Cum-Laude in Chemistry-Physics (Complutense University of Madrid, UCM). Outside the scientific field, he has complementary training in Quality Engineering, Business Management, Computer Consulting, Finance, Accounting and Financial Markets.
Due to academic merits, he obtained a collaboration scholarship in his last year of degree to deal with spectroscopic study of pigments and the completion of high-pressure polymerization of compounds. After this period, he began a long private career in large multinationals such as L'Óreal, Andersen Consulting, Accenture, Banco Santander Investment, BBVA, Barclays Bank… and in important national companies such as Banco de España and INDRA Sistemas.
After taking a voluntary leave of absence from INDRA, he returned to the academic field to perform, in parallel at UCM and Polytechnic University of Madrid (UPV), various tasks as project manager and technology transfer, lecturer and researcher, while he also developed his doctorate about spectroscopic study of the formation of analogues of fossil resins.
He has participated in research projects of various national networks (with UCM, UPV, Centro de Astrobiología-CAB-CSIC, Univ. Valladolid, Univ. Cantabria, Univ. Oviedo, Universitat Politècnica of Valencia, Universidad of Valencia, Institute of Materials of Madrid-CSIC, ICTAN-CSIC, Autonomous Univ. of Barcelona, University of La Laguna, CIEMAT, Spanish Gemological Institute, Univ. Granada, Univ. UPV/EHU etc.), in which the common aspect has been spectroscopy and high pressure as thermodynamic variable, applied to condensed phases, new materials, mechanochemistry, exploration and planetary instrumentation (Mars, Jovian moons, ...), detection of space debris, food technology and aqueous systems related to life, forgeries in gemology, pigments and Cultural Heritage , etc.
Since 2015, he has been the national coordinator of the National Chemistry Olympics, program of Education and Vocational Training Office and of the Royal Spanish Society of Chemistry (RSEQ). Since then, he has been the Head-Mentor and trainer of the Spanish Olympic Chemistry team (students with high abilities) in up to fourteen supranational competitions (IChO and OIAQ) (in Lomonosov Moscow State University, Azerbaijan; Agricultural University of Georgia; Mahidol University, Thailand; Comenius University of Bratislava, Slovakia; University of Chemistry and Technology of Prague; Université de Paris, France; TÜBITAK, Turkey; Kyoto University, Japan; University Federal de Piauí, Brazil; Univ. Tianjin, China; Autonomous University of Mexico; University of Sonora of Mexico,...) .
He has been elected member of the Steering Committee of the Royal Spanish Society of Chemistry (RSEQ) and General Treasurer of this society during the 2019-2022 legislature.
It has organized 5 national and international congresses, 4 summer schools, 8 national chemistry Olympics (Univ. De Alcalá, Univ. Salamanca, Univ. Cantabria, Univ. Valencia, Univ. San Pablo CEU, Univ. Santiago and two at UCM). He is member of the jury of the international fair Science on Stage. Since “continuing university training” in chemistry applied to Cooking and Cocktail bar, he has trained various Chefs and Bartenders of recognized international prestige.
