Mario Martín Gamboa is part of the teaching and research staff of the Rey Juan Carlos University and holds a Research Talent Attraction Fellowship, under the call “Talent Attraction. Programme”, funded by the Regional Government of Madrid. He has a Ph.D. in Industrial Technologies: Chemistry, Environmental, Energy, Electronics, Mechanics, and Materials from Rey Juan Carlos University (November 2017), an MSc in Renewable Energies, Fuel Cells and Hydrogen from CSIC in collaboration with UIMP (2014), and a B.Sc. in Environmental Sciences from Rey Juan Carlos University (2013). His main research line is the development and application of advanced methodologies with a life-cycle perspective for the evaluation of sustainability, taking into account environmental, economic, social and technical criteria. To date, he has participated in more than 15 research projects and contracts at both national and international levels. In addition, he has published 24 articles in peer-reviewed international journals and more than 35 contributions to national and international conferences. He also was co-supervisor of a doctoral thesis within the Industrial Technologies Programme of the Rey Juan Carlos University and he has participated in the supervision of three B.Sc. theses. Finally, he is currently the communications manager of the Spanish Network for Life Cycle Assessment (esLCA) topical editor of the international journal “International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health” (MDPI).

Summary : The development of light-driven technologies represents a RADICAL NEW WAY for the conversion and storage of renewable energy. The Project focuses on the successful development of a new concept of low-cost flow photo-reactor prototype for the reduction of CO2 and N2 to produce fuels and chemicals (CH4, C2H4, C3H6 and NH3) coupled to the oxidation of microplastics and organic pollutants from wastewater treatment plants. In order to reach these ambitious objectives, HySolChem investigates CO2 valorisation strategies, artificial photosynthesis, N2 fixation and degradation of water pollutants. The validation of the prototype is in a wastewater treatment plant and a study of the developed materials and devices from a life-cycle environmental, economic and social point of view is also carried out.
