José Luis Díaz de Tuesta se licenció en Ingeniería Química en la Universidad Rey Juan Carlos en 2009. Posteriormente, obtuvo la beca FPU de doctorado para graduarse como doctor en la Universidad Autónoma de Madrid y desarrollar su tesis doctoral relacionada con catalizadores carbonosos dopados para el tratamiento de aguas residuales por oxidación catalítica húmeda con peróxido, concluyendo con cum laude en 2016. Posteriormente, Jose Luis se incorporó al Laboratorio Asociado LSRE-LCM y CIMO, en el Instituto Politécnico de Bragança (IPB), en Portugal, a través de una beca posdoctoral asociada al proyecto AIProcMat@N2020. En el marco de este proyecto, el investigador estudió el tratamiento de aguas residuales con aceites, utilizando materiales a base de carbono como adsorbentes y nanocatalizadores. En 2018, Jose Luis comenzó a trabajar como co-Investigador Principal en el proyecto PLASTIC_TO_FUEL&MAT, el cual consiste en la valorización de residuos sólidos plásticos para producir materiales de carbono nanoestructurados, principalmente nanotubos de carbono. Entre 2018 y 2022, el investigador trabajó en el IPB en más proyectos, como VALORCOMP, BaccusTech, Bagaço+Valor y RTChips. Todos ellos relacionados con la valorización de residuos sólidos, la preparación de materiales y nanomateriales basados en carbono, y la aplicación en adsorción y catálisis, principalmente para el tratamiento de aguas residuales. En 2022, Jose Luis se incorporó a GIQA a través de la beca Atracción al Talento para seguir trabajando en el desarrollo de técnicas de valorización de residuos ricos en carbono y preparación de materiales híbridos carbono-inorgánicos para aplicaciones medioambientales, principalmente tratamiento de aguas residuales mediante técnicas avanzadas de oxidación.
