José María Escola Saez Saez nació en Badajoz en 1970. Estudió la carrera de Ciencias Químicas, especialidad en Química Industrial en la Universidad de Extremadura, obteniendo la calificación de Premio Extraordinario de Licenciatura en 1994. Realizó la Tesis Doctoral en la Universidad Complutense de Madrid, bajo la dirección de los profesores José Aguado y David Serrano, sobre “Reciclado químico de Plásticos con catalizadores zeolíticos”, calificada con el Premio Extraordinario de Doctorado en 1998. Posteriormente, llevó a cabo una estancia Postdoctoral como profesor visitante asociado en el Instituto Tecnológico de California bajo la supervisión de Mark E. Davis en 1999 – 2000. A finales del año 2000, se incorporó a la Universidad Rey Juan Carlos donde ganó la plaza de profesor Titular de Universidad en el año 2002 en el Departamento de Tecnología Química y Ambiental. Sus líneas de investigación se centran en la síntesis de materiales mesoestructurados y zeolitas nanocristalinas y jerarquizadas, reciclado químico de plásticos a combustibles, oligomerización y metátesis de olefinas y polimerización de poliolefinas. Es coautor de 40 trabajos de investigación en revistas internacionales y de una patente europea.

      Mostrar resumen: Las zeolitas son aluminosilicatos cristalinos que se han utilizado con notable éxito como catalizadores debido a su versatilidad, excelente resistencia mecánica, térmica, hidrotermal y a su selectividad de forma. Se han aplicado principalmente como catalizadores ácidos, aunque su uso como catalizadores básicos está adquiriendo cada vez más importancia. Sin embargo, su empleo en reacciones donde participaban moléculas voluminosas, como es el caso de muchas reacciones de química fina o ambiental, se veía comprometido debido a que dichos reactivos no eran capaces de acceder a los sitios activos del catalizador localizados en el interior de sus poros y cavidades. Por ello, se han desarrollado multitud de métodos para aumentar su accesibilidad de los centros activos de estos catalizadores, apareciendo una nueva generación de materiales zeolíticos que combinan porosidad en el intervalo de los micro- y meso/macro-poros, atrayendo la atención de la industria y de numerosos grupos de investigación. Uno de estos métodos es la cristalización de núcleos silanizados, método de síntesis directa desarrollado por el Grupo de Ingeniería Química y Ambiental (GIQA) de la URJC, grupo que posee una contrastada experiencia en el diseño de catalizadores zeolíticos para su aplicación en catálisis. Por otra parte, las zeolitas tipo faujasita son una de las estructuras más empleadas en la industria y poseen excelentes propiedades como catalizadores bifuncionales ácido/básicos. Se han preparado faujasitas mesoporosas por diferentes métodos, pero no se han encontrado referencias a la síntesis de estas estructuras mediante CNS, a pesar las ventajas que tendría debido a que sería posible ajustar la porosidad de los materiales obtenidos de una manera más controlable. Por ello, el presente proyecto tiene como objetivo el desarrollo de catalizadores basados en zeolitas faujasita de porosidad jerarquizada (X e Y) aplicando el método de cristalización de núcleos silanizados. Esto permitiría preparar catalizadores más eficientes en múltiples campos de interés industrial y medioambiental, como el reciclado químico de plásticos, procesos relacionados con la producción de combustibles renovables o con la valorización de biomasa lignocelulósica.
